Kids' Winter Coats Built for Real Winter

A winter jacket has one job: keep cold, wind, and snow out so kids can stay outside longer. Every Reima winter coat is built for that job:

  • Warm down to -22°F (-30°C) - designed and tested in Arctic winters
  • Waterproof, windproof outer shells - snow, sleet, and slush stay out
  • Down or Fellex insulation - serious warmth without bulk that restricts movement
  • PFAS-free - no added harmful chemicals in any layer
  • Room to grow built in - one jacket lasts multiple winters
  • Sizes 9-12M through 14Y - baby and toddler winter jackets through big-kid parkas and puffers, unisex throughout
Down or Fellex - Which Insulation to Choose?

Down jackets give the most warmth for their weight. Reima uses responsibly sourced down, so the filling is light, lofty, and warm enough for the coldest days of the year.

Fellex is Reima's own synthetic insulation. It keeps insulating even in damp conditions, which makes it the practical choice for slushy climates, daily wear, and kids who play hard in every weather.

Whichever you choose, the shell around it is waterproof and windproof - so the insulation stays dry and keeps doing its job.

Waterproof Matters in Winter, Too

Snow melts against a warm jacket. A water-resistant coat soaks through by the end of a sledding afternoon - a waterproof one doesn't. Reima winter jackets pair a waterproof shell with insulation, so kids stay warm and dry through snow forts, sled hills, and wet spring snow.

Details That Keep Kids Outside
  • Adjustable cuffs and hems seal out cold and extend the fit as kids grow
  • Detachable hoods stay put in wind and snap off safely if they catch
  • Zipped pockets keep treasures where they belong, even upside down on the monkey bars
  • Reflective details keep kids visible on short, dark winter days
Winter Jacket, Ski Jacket, or Snowsuit?

All three keep a child warm. They are built for different days:

SetupBest forWhy it wins
Winter coat + snow pants Everyday winter from 9 months to 14Y - daycare, school and the playgroundMost versatile, and the easiest for kids to put on themselves
Ski jacketFull days on the mountainAdds snow locks and a helmet-compatible hood to the same warmth
SnowsuitToddlers who spend the day on the groundOne piece, so there is no snow gap at the waist
What Size Kids' Winter Coat Should I Buy?

Reima winter coats run 9-12M, 12-18M and 18-24M for babies, 2T through 4T for toddlers, and 5Y to 14Y for school-age kids. If you're shopping for a 5T winter coat, that's our 5Y.

Every jacket is cut with 2-3 inches of room for growth, so take your child's current size and go up only if they're between two - and leave room for a fleece underneath, which is what extends the coat's range on the coldest days. Height ranges for every size are on the size charts.

Parka, Puffer or Down Jacket?

A parka is the longest cut. It covers the hips and thighs, which is what keeps a child warm standing still - the bus stop, the lift line, waiting their turn on a sled hill. Mutka and Ajaton are waterproof ReimaTec winter parkas; Parkkala and Serkkula add down.

A puffer or down jacket is shorter and lighter for the same warmth, which suits a child who keeps moving. Koskela is our warmest puffer, designed for -22°F, and Paimio and Kupponen are down jackets cut for everyday winter.

Both sit on the same waterproof, windproof ReimaTec shell, so the choice is about length and weight rather than weather protection.

Why Is a Reima Winter Coat Worth It?

Every Reima winter coat is made from safe, non-toxic materials, with no added PFAS in the shell, lining or insulation. PFAS are forever chemicals that don't break down in the environment - on a coat a child wears for hours a day, hood up and sleeve in mouth, that's worth knowing.

It's also built for more than one winter. With 2-3 inches of room to grow, adjustable cuffs and hems and reinforced high-wear areas, one coat lasts several seasons and goes on to a younger sibling - fewer coats bought, less waste.

Designed for Kids Since 1944

Reima has made outdoor gear for one group of people since 1944: kids. Every winter jacket is cut for how children actually move, climb, and play, and tested in real Finnish winters - which is why the same coat still fits properly on the second or third child to wear it. In 2026, USA Today named Reima one of the Brands Most Trusted By Parents.

Frequently Asked Questions
How warm are Reima winter jackets?

Warm enough for any winter - our warmest styles, like the Koskela puffer, are designed for temperatures down to -22°F (-30°C). Warmth also depends on what's underneath: a base layer and a fleece midlayer extend any jacket's range.

Do Reima winter coats come in baby and toddler sizes?

Yes. The range starts at 9-12M and runs 12-18M, 18-24M, 2T through 4T, and 5Y to 14Y. The baby and toddler sizes use the same waterproof, insulated ReimaTec construction as the big-kid parkas and puffers.

Are Reima kids' winter jackets waterproof?

Yes. All Reima winter jackets are waterproof and windproof, without added PFAS or other harmful chemicals - so melting snow and sleet stay out of the insulation.

How should a kids' winter coat fit?

Reima jackets already include 2-3 inches of room for growth and movement, so take your child's usual size - there's space for a fleece underneath and for next winter. Sleeves should cover the wrists with arms raised, and adjustable cuffs and hems tune the fit as kids grow.
