Responsible Down Standard & PrimaLoft® Synthetic Down

Learn more about Reima’s use of down insulation

What is Responsible Down?

Per the Textile Exchange, the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) aims to ensure that down and feathers come from animals that have not been subjected to any unnecessary harm. Mother Nature treats us well, and it’s our duty to return her kindness. Happily, we can all do our part by reducing our impact and keeping our focus on sustainability.

Why does Reima use down insulation?

Why use down at all, you might wonder. It’s a top insulation material and extremely light for the warmth it provides. Additionally, with RDS, we use down that would otherwise be wasted. Instead, it’s now the best insulation, in the best kids’ performance wear. We think that’s a good thing.

The two types of down insulation we have are Reima Down 60 & Reima Down 80. RD60 is 60% duck down and 40% duck feather, and has a fill power of 550. RD80 is 80% duck down and 20% duck feather and has a fill power of 650.

Reima loves animals

Kids love animals and would never hurt them, so it only makes sense that we protect them from harm. We never use real fur or leather. The down we use is Responsible Down Standard (RDS), and the wool Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified, to ensure all animals are treated humanely. RDS also ensures that all down is the byproduct of food production, so there are no additional environmental impacts from it. Reima has used only Responsible Down Standard down since 2018.
