Breathability Levels
Breathability level is meant to measure fabrics that are functional: meaning they keep water out, yet allow moisture to be transferred to outer layers. Breathability can be measured by different standards. Breathability is measured in grams per square meter per day, or g/m2/24h. We use our own method to determine the breathability of our products, which is comparable to the ISO 15496 standard.
Breathability of at least 3,000 g/m2/24h:
The product is suitable for everyday outings and light rain.
Breathability of at least 5,000 g/m2/24h:
The product is suitable for playing outside.
Breathability of at least 7,000 g/m2/24h:
The product is best for active kids / playing sports.
Breathability at least 7000 g/m2/24 h
Durability
Reima measures durability with a hardcore Martindale test where abrasion resistance of fabrics is tested with sand paper. Our indicated figures are not comparable with the ones of upholstery fabric testing, as they are resulted by using a woolen cloth, not sand paper. For each product we choose the best suitable and durable fabric, according to the purpose of use. Particularly durable fabrics are given a separate arrow symbol with the Martindale test value. If a product does not have this symbol, the durability measured with Martindale is less than 30 000 cycles, and possible test result indicated in the material information.
Abrasion resistance over 30 000 cycles Martindale:
Very good durability, suitable for casual pants and durable jackets.
Abrasion resistance over 50 000 cycles Martindale:
Excellent durability, suitable for pants and lower parts of overalls.
Abrasion resistance over 80 000 cycles Martindale:
Extremely durable fabric, usually used as reinforcement material and in our most durable pants.
Durability over 50000 cycles Martindale
Warmth levels
The degrees of warmth level thermal markings are indicative. They have been prepared keeping in mind that underneath the shell layer, mid- and base layers will be worn according to the weather - the colder it is, the more warm layers will be chosen. An average time spent outdoors with this guidance is approximately an hour. If you plan to do sports / play actively, choose lighter mid-layer clothing and/or lighter outerwear.
No flakes:
shell/mid-season product, no insulation.
One flake:
light wadding, fleece or light down.
Two flakes:
warm waddign or warm down.
Three flakes:
extremely warm wadding, pearl wadding or fluffy down.
Temperatures ca. 20 to -20 °F
Waterproof levels
All Reima fabrics or products marked with drop symbols are waterproof. The waterproof level is indicated with water columns which tell how much water pressure the fabric endures in thickness before water begins to pass its surface. The thickness of the water mass/pressure is stated in mm.
Water column over 3,000 mm:
Protects against light rain or heavy rain for a short amount of time.
Water column over 5,000 mm:
Protects against heavy rain. Will stay dry unless sitting in the rain
Water column over 8,000 mm:
Is suitable for both heavy rain but also sitting in the rain.
Water column over 10,000 mm:
For extreme conditions. Protects in active outings in wet surroundings and in heavy rain, all-day. Extremely waterproof
Water column at least 10000 mm

Kasia 2021-02-01 ★Not warm for even short durations
I'm from Minnesota where cold weather gear is essential. Winters involve single digit temps for months. These gloves left my toddler's hands cold even in double digit temps--over 20 degrees. If they can't keep hands warm in what we consider a "warm" winter day--they definitely won't work for our cold days. Disappointing because they are more than twice as expensive as options on Amazon. You have to pay for returns as well. The only good thing is that I was glad to see gloves with fingers small enough for my 3 year old but not much help if they don't keep her hands warm for even short durations in mild winter.
