Why Honesty is Always in Fashion

An Honest Culture

In 2013, Readers’ Digest conducted an interesting experiment about honesty. In order to test how honest different cities are, they dropped wallets containing cash and a contact number, and recorded the outcome. So, which city was the most honest? With 11 out of 12 wallets returned, Helsinki, Finland came out on top.

While it’s just one example, the “lost wallet” experiment helps to illustrate how honesty is an important part of Finnish culture. Finland regularly ranks well when it comes to transparency and corruption – it’s ranked by Transparency International as one of the top 3 most transparent countries – and Finns expect transparency from the businesses they support. What’s more, Finnish shoppers want to know where their clothes come from and how they’re made. If it’s not done ethically and sustainably, they often prefer to shop elsewhere.

Reima is committed to upholding the values that define Finnish culture, which is why we do everything we can to ensure transparency throughout our supply chain.

Transparency is key

most large clothing brands, Reima has an extensive network of suppliers and production partners from all around the world in countries such as China, Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Italy and Finland. To ensure that the needs of both the market and consumers are met, while also meeting environmental and social needs, a modern approach to supply chain management is vital. And for this, transparency is key: it helps to maintain relationships, improve sustainability, and ensure positive working conditions.

Suppliers and partners are a natural extension of the workplace, and just like in all types of human interaction, it’s important to consider the potential impact on a community when it comes to corporate responsibility, sustainability requirements, and human rights. We carefully select our suppliers and partners and hold them to high standards, working together through transparent communication.

We regularly perform both our own audits and third-party audits to evaluate the social and environmental conditions within our supply chain. When needed, we provide support to improve conditions. And, of course, we’re always looking for more ways to improve our own practices, as well. As members of the amfori BSCI compliance system, the leading global business association for open and sustainable trade, we hope to continuously improve sustainability and responsibility any way we can.

Without transparency and honesty, we wouldn’t be able to continue designing and creating timeless, sustainable kidswear. It helps us guarantee that our products are ethically sourced and created, which in turn helps us guarantee quality products for our customers. It’s at the heart of what we do. “There’s no other way than honesty and transparency when it comes to our kids,” says Topi Lintukangas, Reima’s Director of Brand and Marketing. “When we as a brand aim to inspire kids to move more and freely enjoy childhood discoveries, we’re talking about more than just inspiring – we’re talking about enabling a lifestyle with a lifelong impact. Doing that is something we need to work for every day, as long as we exist.”
