Snow play to UNESCO world heritage list
Reima joins forces with POW Finland
In November,Reima launched a campaign together with Protect Our Winters Finland (POW). Our target was to showcase the importance of traditional snow games by getting them added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The count finished on 2.2.2020 at 20,822 names, which means we reached our UNESCO 20,000 name target! Together we’ve assembled a huge crowd of people to carry a strong message forward to protect snow play and winter.
However, collecting names is just the beginning. POW Finland and campaign partners Reima and Ruka are now requesting a meeting with Hanna Kosonen, Minister of Science and Culture. Snow play is already part of the Finnish National Heritage List, and we ask the Finnish Government to submit a proposal to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Being on the World Heritage List would send a strong message to the world: It’s our joint responsibility to preserve snowy winters and snow plays for future generations.
We’ll keep you posted on the progress of this issue on our channels. Thank you all who signed the petition!
